St. Louis March National at Gateway International
April 1st, 2009
Crispin and his crew chief have been preparing the GT2 and Spec Miata cars. For the first National SCCA Race at Gateway International which was March 28th and March 29th of 2009.
Crisping turned sixteen years old on March 18th, so we had to send in a lot of paperwork to get approved for his SCCA license. Everyone was very helpful in getting this done
We arrived at Gateway Friday afternoon and prepared the cars for Saturday's Regional Races. This would be the first time Crispin has driven the Spec Miata. It was 9:30 in the morning, cold, and raining. Crispin said the car handled good. No track records of course. He qualified sixth and finished third in the race. We would get the cars ready for the national event the next day.
We got up early to start working on the cars and it was raining - had been all night - and it never really warmed up. 8:30 am: Qualified GT2 car in second position and was fifth overall in the GT2 class. In the final, the Mazda GT2 car was cutting out so Crispin had to pamper it to finish the race. Was third in his class, but last overall.
Next was the Spec Miata class. Touched the wall in turn seven on the second lap and and knocked the back end loose, but qualified second in his class. Crispin came in twice to get the fender bumped and lost precious time but managed to finish the race all right.
We'll be preparing the cars for Hallett next weekend and hope that the weather won't be bad!
More soon!
