Pair of Top Five Finishes Put Beaver Atop NASA Points
May 19th, 2007
Crispin Andrew Beaver Motorsports left Missouri for the haul to Indiana on Friday morning, arriving at Putnam Park later that evening for the first of two races on Saturday.
Coming off a series of engine troubles in the previous event, Crispin drove the car gently in the first practice session at 9:20am. The engine seemed strong but he still drove fairly easy during the noon qualifying session where his Royal Purple/Mac's/Tynis Construction Mazda posted the second quickest time of the day both overall and in his Super Unlimited class.
In the 40-minute race, Crispin finished second in class and third overall in the field of thirty-two cars.
The team returned the following morning and mounted a fresh set of tires for Sunday's race, skipping practice to save wear. He started second in the field and ran in that position for nearly half the race, closing on the leader and threatening to win, when his engine began to overheat. He was forced to retire from the race with engine problems similar to those experienced at the last race in early May.
Now leading the NASA Super Unlimited points standings, Crispin's car will undergo repairs and return for the next event at the Mid-America Motorcomplex in Iowa on June 30th. Before leaving Putnam Park Crispin had a very nice interview on Saturday with the guys from the Cruise'n with E-Rider television show.
