New Spec Miata at Nationals in Mid Ohio
September 22nd, 2008
After the crash at Road Atlanta the crew brought the Royal Purple/Phil’s Tire Miata home to get ready for the Nationals in Mid Ohio. After looking at the Miata it was not repairable. They had a 1995 donor car at home which they will have to put together for the Mid Ohio Nationals. With only three weeks to do this it will be quite a challenge. In the repair shop and the help of George Jr.William and Wade they were able to put the Miata in shape. After the body was complete it went to the wrap shop run by Colby Allen, then to the alignment shop done by Brandon then to the Dyno Shop run by Sam Henry. The Royal Purple/ Phil's Tire was ready to load up.
We tested the car at Hallett which did not go well. It is not handling well but the crew took it home and worked on it until it was right. Will load the Miata up and leave for Mid Ohio.
Signed up for the Tune/Test Tuesday and Wednesday to get the bugs out of the Miata and give Crispin track time. Testing went great and we are ready for the Nationals which will start Thursday.
Crispin went out for the first Thursday morning practice. Out of 50 cars the Spec Miata is 6th. Very good time considering it was his first time out with a new car that has never been raced before. The crew was very satisfied. In the 2nd session which was at 12:38 a.m. Crispin was 3rd with a 142.864 out of 55 cars..Miata is great. Crispin went out for the 3rd practice and turned a 1:43.648 which is 5th out of 61 cars. Took the Spec Miata back to the pits to make adjustments. The guys at the shop did a great job. Thank you Sam Henry in the Dyno shop.
Crispin went out for the warm-up Friday morning but it was raining. With rain tires Crispin was 18th out of 52 cars.Still raining went out for qualifying. Crispin was 4th in the rain out of 60 cars. The crew will get the car ready for the Qualify race. Crispin finished 4th in the Friday qualify race out of 59 cars starting. Took the Spec Miata back to the pits to get ready for Saturday.
Everyone has done a great job on the new Spec Miata. Crispin said the car is handling great. This is the first time the car has been raced so this says a lot for the people that put the car together.
In the warm-up on Saturday Crispin was 3rd fast in the rain out of 48 cars. Unfortunately Crispin was hit in the rear which tore the bumper off. Back to the pits to repair the car for qualifying. For Saturdays qualifying Crispin was 15th out of 60 cars. Went out for the Qualify race and was hit in the left rear, spun the car, and was hit in the side. Crispin did not finish. The crew will repair the spec Miata for Sunday.
Sundays warm-up started at 8:a.m. in which in the first lap Crispin had to bring the car in because it was not handling right.
Sundays final is here Crispin is starting 28th on the grid which is not a good place to start with 62 cars starting the race. The crew has the car back together and lined the car up .Crispin will race for 40 minutes. Out of 62 cars Crispin was able to finish 18th which we are very proud of Crispin for. Crispin has never been in a National event before and it was a learning experience!
For the Teen Mazda Challenge Crispin finished 4th but it was quite an experience down the road. As a team we had a lot of bad luck but feel we did quite well weathering the storm. We would make a lot of changes if we were to do this again because we have gained a lot of experience. This was the first year with the Spec Miata and did not feel we were the underdog, we were to be reckoned with and always the target which made us fight even harder.
In closing, Crispin and his crew which consists of: Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, Crinis (sister) want to thank everyone that helped us : Jay Andrews, George Jr., Jesse Prather, Wiley Alexander, William Moore, Mark Cupps, Jim Masters, Kim & Phil Phillips, Wade Hughes, Karen & Wally Tynis, Dave Jones, Sam Henry and Brandon Straughn. Without their help we would not be able to do this.
Crispin would like to congratulate Dean on the win in the Teen Mazda Challenge, Ryan for 2nd place, Devin for 3rd place and Shea for 5th. We enjoyed racing with all of you and look forward for 2009.
Thank you everyone,
Crispin Beaver Motorsports
