Mid America Motorplex SCCA National Race Report
June 4th, 2009
It was a very eventful weekend to say the least. Arrived at Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, Iowa Friday afternoon and unloaded both cars and set up for the weekend. On Saturday there will be a Regional race and practice for the National Race on Sunday. The crew chief and pit crew went to work on making changes to the cars for Saturday.Trying out some new things on the Gt2 and Spec Miata.
We got up early Saturday morning to make the final changes. Crispin’s classes are next to each other so Uncle George will bring the Spec Miata in line when the Gt2 goes out. Practice went very well in the Gt2 Phil’s Tire/Royal Purple/Tynis Construction Mazda Rx 7. Crispin got in the Spec Miata, it was first in the session. Both cars are very good just need some fine tuning.
Crispin has raced the Gt2 here before but it is the first time in the Spec Miata. Crispin didn’t stay out the whole session in either car saving them for the National on Sunday.
Sunday will qualify the Gt2 car first and the Spec Miata next. Out of 24 cars overall Crispin qualified the Mazda Gt2 Rx 7 1st in his class and 2nd overall with a 1:34.358 in four laps. A Porsche took him out in the fourth lap. Have a lot of repairs to do to the Gt2 car(mechanical). Took the Mazda Spec Miata out and qualified it 4th in his class and 8th overall. Both cars are very fast.
Starting on the pole in the Gt2 class out of 23 cars but unfortunately on the parade lap the transmission broke and could not get it in gear - receiving a DNF.
The Spec Miata had some great racing going on Crispin and Richard had quite a battle. Crispin was leading when he missed a shift letting Richard close in on him but Crispin got his focus back winning the race. This is Crispin’s first win in the SCCA National Spec Miata class.
Thank you to the Crew Chief (grandpa) who made all the right changes on both cars. Uncle George who helped make some of the changes and pitted for Crispin. Tire changer Geoff Ledford and the girls on the crew that were the gopher’s. Phil’s Tire for the great shave on the Spec Miata tires and Royal Purple for the great oil and all of the corner workers for there hard work, the tow truck driver who was very knowledgeable on how to tow the Rx 7 back with no damage.
Will be going to the June sprints next to test for the Runoffs.
Thank you to everyone that has been following Crispin on his web site.
