Heartland Park Double National
May 9th, 2009
All the way to Heartland Park it rained on Friday and did not look promising for the weekend. Arrived at the track and started to unload the cars and set up for the weekend hoping the weather will hold off for Saturday and Sunday. This is a double National weekend.
Crispin has never raced either car here before so it will be a learning experience. It is not an easy track to keep hold of. Had 15 minutes practice in the Spec Miata and found the tire wall brought the car in and took the Gt 2 car out but after two laps it was red flaged because of a tremendous crash in front of Crispin coming over the hill by the start finish line at the bottom. Will get the cars ready for qualifying.
Spec Miata will qualify first for 25 minutes. Crispin qualified the Spec Miata 5th which we felt was great. Took the Gt 2 car out next and qualified it 2nd. The crew went to work to get ready for the final race.
Raced the Spec Miata for 18 laps and had fast lap 1:53.486. Finished 2nd will take the Gt2 car out for the final race. Starting 2nd raced for 18 laps a lot of fast guys but Crispin ended winning his 2nd SCCA National Gt 2 race.So far the weather is holding off not warm but dry. Back to the pits to get the cars ready for Sunday.
On Sunday the weather is holding off qualified the Spec Miata 4th and the Gt2 car 2nd. The tires are going away on both cars. Raced the Spec Miata for 18 laps there were 5 guys that are pretty fast finished 3rd in the race. Went off the track avoiding a spin from another car on lap one and lost valuable time, couldn’t catch the first two cars.
Raced 17 laps in the Gt2 class the tires went away so it was hard to keep pace with the front runners he went off a few times but fought back to the front. Unfortunately there was not enough time for the win, finishing 3rd, Crispin did not feel that was a bad finish considering he wore the tires all the way out. Crispin did all he could do to stay on the track.
Will load up and head to the garage to tear the cars down and get ready for MAM May 30-31.
Crispin wants to thank his sponsors Royal Purple, Phil’s Tire Service, Tynis Construction, Scott’s Equipment Rental and Prather Racing. Also his Uncle George and friends for helping on the pit crew and thank you to Crispin’s fans that visit his web site every month to see Crispin’s progress.
Update: When we arrived home Crispin received a certificate in the mail saying he has the Spec Miata track record for Heartland Park. Crispin has never raced here so this is very good news.
See you at my next race.
