News Fun in the Sun Regional at Mid America Motorplex

Fun in the Sun RegionalWhat a weekend for racing again. It seems like the weather does not want to cooperate. Arrived Friday and it was hot and humid. Unloaded the Purple Miata to got it ready for Saturday’s Fun In the Sun Regional at Mid America Motorplex. Sam Henry from Springfield Dyno has been getting the Purple Miata motor back in shape. It was sick last race we had it in. It was way under powered. We entered it in the ITA race for Saturday to test it and break it in.

After several down pours and a power outage at 10:00 a.m. the sun peaks out and the first group will get to start but the timing will be done manually. Put rain tires on the Saferacer Miata. The weather is not very stable. Finally at 11:30 a.m. we qualified. Crispin stayed out six laps and came in. Out of 12 Miatas Crispin qualified 8th. Will qualify in the ITA class next around 12:18. There were 18 ITA’s qualifying. Crispin has never run in this class before and said it was a lot of fun. After 6 laps came in and qualified 3rd The car is handling great. Crispin’s purple miata is straight nothing cheater about it. The ITA cars can change alot of different things on the car in which the Spec Miata class can not. Sam Henry did a great job on the motor. Used the rain set up for the race. Did not enter in the Spec Miata race it was raining too hard. Did not want to have a problem with the car need it for tomarrows National race. At 4:00 we took the Purple Miata out in the ITA class for the regional race and finished 2nd Crispin said it was a lot of fun. Took the Saferacer car out for the Spec Miata race. Lost the front bumper slid off in the mud because of mud on the track. Fixed the bumper and went back out and finished 12th.

In the middle of the night the down pour came back and washed the track off again. Crispin goes out in the 4th session in the Saferacer car for qualifying. Track is still damp for qualifying. Qualified 5th for the race. Charlie will start the pack out but when the green flag was waving Crispin was making his move to the front and got it but lost it back to Charlie because of mud on the track again and staying out of trouble with other racers. There was a lot of muddy areas on the track in front of Crispin there were two cars dicing with each other Crispin saw they were going to be in trouble so he backed off expecting them to wreck and sure enough they were off the track. Crispin was trying for the lead again but lost too much time. Charlie ended up winning, Crispin 2nd and Mike 3rd but that all changed in the Tech barn.

Run in the Sun RegionalIt was a rough weekend for the crew chief because of weather. Making changes constantly to make up for the conditions. All in all Crispin had fun in the ITA class on Saturday. Thank you Sam Henry for getting the Purple Miata back together. Also Crispin wants to thank Charlie James at Saferacer for letting him use their car for the last two races. It was fun racing at MAM again.

Thank you to all the sponsors and people who had a hand in helping: Royal Purple, Phil’s Tire Service, Tynis Construction, Scott’s Equipment Rental, Prather Racing and Springfield Dyno, Dave Jones and the Saferacer Crew.

In closing Crispin is preparing to go to the Runoffs at Road America in his Mazda Rx7 and Purple Spec Miata in September and is in need of sponsors to help him get there. Any donations would greatly be appreciated. Crispin needs to buy several sets of tires for both cars, fuel and has to pay for rebuilding both motors, entry fees and expense to get there. Any help would be appreciated. You can e-mail Crispin at sandrabuhr@hughes.net. We will put your name on the cars to advertise for you. This race has a lot of people there so you will get a lot of exposure also TV exposure. Thank you and hope we see you there.
