Crispin Finishes 1st in Class at Hallett
October 25th, 2008
Crispin and his crew got back from the Nationals and started putting the Mazda Rx 7 together. It has been sitting in the work shop all year so they wanted to test the rebuilt engine from Prather Racing. In March, Crispin will turn sixteen and will join SCCA and will compete in the Runoffs with the Mazda GT 2 car.
Arrived at Hallett Friday night to get settled in for Saturday’s practice. Started at 8:20 in the morning and it was cool out. The Mazda ran pretty good for not being out all year, so the crew did some fine tunning and went out for the second practice. In the second practice, Crispin turned a 1:20.31...Third practice the Mazda is not running as well. The crew will work on it to see what changes it needs.Crispin was still 1st in the group of 16 cars. Will get the car ready for Sunday.
Got up early to get the Mazda Rx 7 ready. The first practice went well with a time of 1:20.981. Will fine tune the car again. Crispin did not go out for the 2nd practice - still working on a small bug. Crispin went out for the qualify session but the Mazda has a bug still. Turned a 1:22.885. Out of 22 cars Crispin Qualified 7th overall. Still need to find out what is wrong.
Got the Mazda ready for the 6 lap race in which Crispin finished 4th overall and 1st in his class of GT 2’s with a 120.839. Not too shabby, but Crispin wants the GT 2 track record.Went out with the Royal Purple/ Phil’s Tire Mazda Rx 7 for the 12 lap race. In a field of 23 cars Crispin finished 4th overall but was 1st in his class with a new track record for the GT 2 class with a 1:20.124. Crispin wanted to win overall but the GT1’s were running 1:18.612 but Jeff Tevis ran a new track record for GT 1’s with a 1.17.625. The weekend went very well. The car ran great and Crispin is looking forward to 2009. We had a great 2008 and are making plans for 2009 trying to get sponsorship to run Mx-5 next year.
Crispin wants to thank everyone that had a hand in helping him all year and his sponsors: Royal Purple, Phil’s Tire and Tynis Construction. We hope they stay on with us for 2009. We plan on doing a lot better. If anyone needs racing tires you need to call Phil’s Tires. There is magic in his tires. Tell them Phil Crispin said you should call him for the best deal.
