July 11th, 2008
The crew came back from Hallett's test run with the Miata and it is race ready. We will now put our focus on getting ready for the Hyperfest at Summit Point, West Virginia. Loaded the Royal Purple/Phil's Tire Spec Miata on Tuesday June 17th to leave Wednesday evening for this is a long drive. We all left after work on Wednesday stopping to sleep that evening to start fresh Thursday morning at 6:00 a.m. Arrived in West Virginia that evening and left for the track on Friday late afternoon.
At first Summit Point was intiminating before we got there because we have not raced with so many cars before. Once we got comfortable with the surroundings that feeling was gone.It is a very nice area and the people running everything were great and very helpful. Everything is very organized.
We got our area set up for Saturday morning the Stingers are the first on the track. Saturday morning came real quick got the Royal Purple/Phil's Tire Spec Miata ready for practice. There will be 73 cars on the track and 33 of them Spec Miata. Went out for the warm up and the car is great.Crispin adapted to the track quickly and needed no changes to the car.
Got the car ready for qualifying in which Crispin qualified 9th not being at this track before in which everyone else has run the track to death. This is their home track. Race time is here the Royal Purple/Phil's Tire Spec Miata and Crispin are ready to go. Crispin finished 9th but he and the other Teen Challenge and others were DQ'd for flag issues. We were one second off the leader so will see what we can do different for tomorrow.
Sunday morning is here discussed what the plans is and will go for the win today. Crispin is famillar with the track now so it should not be a problem. Racers here race you clean which is good. Warm up was great Crispin was 2nd fast the leader with a 1:29.325 and Crispin a 1:29.398. We are ready for the win.
Qualifying went well Crispin was 3rd fast with a 1:28.778 and the leader a 1:28.105. The Royal Purple/Phil's Tire Spec Miata is race ready. Crispin has run the same tires all weekend the Phil's tires are great. Phil has some magic in those tires.
Crispin got ready for the race which is 25 minutes. He started 3rd finishing 2nd. The leaders time was a 1:28.746 and Crispin's time was a 1:28.704. Crispin said in about three more laps he could have caught him. All in all it was a great weekend the officals are great and everyone is very organized which made everything more fun. Having 73 cars starting at one time is not easy but it went smooth. We hope we get to come back here it was a great experience. Heading home and will get the car ready for Mid-Ohio for the 2nd Teen Challenge race July 12-13 but we will practice on the 11th.
Ater returning home with race pending Crispin was DQ'd on a tech issue.
