Beaver Named NASA Champ; Moves On To Hallett
September 18th, 2007
Coming off a six-race winning streak at the end of the 2007 season, 14-year-old NASA sensation Crispin Beaver has clinched the Super Unlimited series title. His rookie year resulted in a host of victories and after building his lead to an insurmountable level by late August he was able to cruise to his third racing championship in two years.
With his NASA season secure, Beaver spent the last weekend of August returning to his roots at the Hallett Motor Racing Circuit west of Tulsa, Oklahoma to complete in the GT-2 class where he won his 2006 titles. The car unloaded well and the chassis needed little work. The engine gremlins that plague them for much of the season seemed to be gone. Rather than participate in Saturday's unofficial non-points race, the team worked on the car and saved their tires for Sunday's main event.
After winning the qualifying race, Beaver looked like a favorite for the 12-lap feature event. However, after nine laps his tires began to wear out and the car began sliding uncontrollably. Crispin went off the track late in the show and the misstep likely cost him a win in the GT-2 class. Nevertheless, he soldiered on to finish the event. Beaver returns to Hallett in late September with a fresh set of tires; their goal is to win the race and break the single-lap track record.
