News 2009 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Race Report

2009 SCCA National Championship RunoffsOur team had a great 2009. A lot of ups and downs but we kept pushing forward not letting the downs get the better of us.I believe the ups out weighed the downs so it makes it easier to deal with.

We went to the Runoffs with high expectations for our cars are race ready and also the driver.Preparing before the races is as hard if not harder than being at the track. All the preparation done in the shop shows up on the track.Crispin and Grandpa have been working real hard to make sure everything is right.Road America is very challenging and a great race track.Every time we go there we enjoy it very much.

Left Friday to get to Road America for the tune/test days which are Sunday and Monday for us.On Sunday Crispin will test the Spec Miata. The Royal Purple/Phil’s Tire/Tynis Construction Spec Miata is running well but needs some fine tuning In the first session we had a tire rub so the crew chief did some work on that. Need to make some more adjustments for the second session. After the third session the car is much better. Will get the car ready for Qualifying on Tuesday.Crispin’s Royal Purple/Phil’s Tire/Tynis Construction Gt2 car will Test on Monday so the Crew Chief will prepare it for tomorrow.

It seems like bad weather is following us all year. It rained last night now it is cool and damp. Our test is at 11:00 so maybe the track will dry out.Crispin went out for the first test but did not try to make any fast times for he is breaking in a motor. Our next session was good the motor and Goodyear tires are great. We should qualify well.

Tuesday is the first qualify day but it rained so hard Crispin did not take the Gt2 car out but will take the Spec Miata out to practice in case it rains in our race.

Wednesday took the Gt2 car out for qualifying. It is dry out for now It was a random draw so Crispin started 20th At the end of 2nd Qualifying Crispin was 9th with a 2:229.Crispin feels like he can win with the car. Unfortunately the motor quit.in the 3rd qualify. We couldn’t afford to put new parts in for the rebuild and it cost us the race. That won’t happen again. Crispin said the car was fast and could have finished in the front.

The random draw for the Spec Miata was 26th out of 39. We qualified 29th the car is not handling very well.In the 2nd Qualify Crispin moved to 20th the changes they made are working but will make more.On Thursday Crispin qualified the Spec Miata 9th with a 2:465 so that is where he will start in the race on Saturday.

On Saturday the weather is not cooperating but it looks like it might hold off.In the start of the race Crispin was able to move to 7th place but went off in the kink and ended up in 38th position fighting his way back to the front.but there is not enough time for the front leaders had a big lead on everyone.Crispin ended up 22nd very down about it but we will go home and make plans for 2010.

We look forward to the Runoffs being at Road America next year we now know what to do. This was Crispin’s first Runoff and we do not feel we did a bad job and gained a lot of experience.Crispin met a lot of great people at the Runoffs.

Crispin would like to thank Phil for helping Grandpa and his family, all of the Sponsors who helped him get here.Thank you to all Crispin’s fans who check his web site to find out how he is doing. We as a crew do not know what direction we are going in next year but are making plans and will let everyone know when we make a final decision.Crispin will keep everyone informed through the layoff period.

Thank you everyone that was on this journey with us this year it was fun and hope to do it again next year.
